Kurt Farrugia
Chief Executive Officer - Transport Malta
Kurt Farrugia was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Authority of Transport in Malta on 12 August 2024. He was previously the CEO of Malta Enterprise, Malta’s economic development agency, for five years. In his role, he led the Malta Government’s economic response to the Covid-19 pandemic with a budget of over €800 million. As the foreign direct investment agency, Malta Enterprise under his leadership attracted some of the largest investments in Malta as well as developed Malta’s Start-Up ecosystem and led efforts to increase R&D efforts in Malta, particularly in the semiconductor sector.
Between 2013 and 2019, he served as Head of Government Communication and spokesperson for the Prime Minister. Mr. Farrugia formed part of the Task Force organizing the Valletta Summit on Migration and the Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting held in 2015, as well as the Informal European Council during Malta’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in February 2017. He accompanied the Prime Minister in most of his international engagements at EU level.
Mr. Farrugia’s career before his role at the Office of the Prime Minister was in journalism and politics. He graduated in Communications and obtained a Master’s Degree in Entrepreneurship at the University of Malta.
