Chartered Marine Electrical Engineer

Dave Gorshkov is an experienced Chartered Marine Electrical Engineer with sea going experience as a Chief Electrical Engineer on commercial and military vessels. Dave has extensive shore based experience managing large cruise ships for Carnival UK  and ROPAX vessels for P&O as the fleet senior technical superintendent .

Recent projects include upgrades to vessels to enable High Voltage Shore Connections (HVSC) ,  new ship designs incorporating the latest ‘Hybrid’  Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) used as synthetic generators to reduce GHG ahead of the IMO 2030 and achieving zero emissions whilst in port as well as power quality projects. 

His present role is with QinetiQ Maritime Systems as the Marine Electrical Power & Propulsion subject matter expert supporting projects on military ships as well as commercial shipping and port operations utilising the latest onshore power and cold ironing systems. A specialist in Marine Electrical power and Propulsion with over 40 years of expertise Dave is regarding as an expert on marine power and shore based HV systems. Studied at University of Wales – Marine School of Wales – graduating as an Electrical engineering officer in 1984. 

Studied with the Institute of Engineering technology (IET) formerly the IEE from 2003-2005 and obtained Chartered Engineer status (CEng) at Masters level. Dave has also studied at HMS Collinwood and HMS Sultan in the UK  where he qualified as a High Voltage Authorising Engineer and a Chartered Marine Engineer with the IMarEST.
